At the beginning of the nineties was Woody Allen in the spotlight. However, doing so it was not about his films, but his private life. The 'messy divorce "between him and Mia Farrow and Allen's relationship with Farrow's adopted daughter Soon-Yi swallowed all the attention. 'Manhattan Murder Mystery' (1993) was actually written as a vehicle for Farrow, but for obvious reasons they would prefer waived a collaboration with her ex. Instead called All that other muse and ex-girlfriend, Diane Keaton. Since "Manhattan" (1979), the two had not worked together, but the chemistry was still there. Moreover was an early version of the script of "Annie Hall" (1977) - both perhaps their best work - at the base of "Manhattan Murder Mystery," and the characters in this film, Larry and Carol Lipton, in fact Annie Hall and Alvy Singer, but twenty-five years older.
As the title implies, "Manhattan Murder Mystery" and murder mystery whodunnit, but one in which humor plays a crucial role. The marriage of Carol Lipton (Diane Keaton) and her husband Larry (Woody Allen) has been a grind, but that changes abruptly as neighbor Lilian House (Lynn Cohen) suddenly dies. Initially assume a heart attack as cause of death, but Carol has her doubts about it. While police decides the case as a route job, she focuses its sights on Lilian's husband Paul (Jerry Adler). She thinks it is not enough mourning his deceased wife and so suspicious. Her good friend Ted (Alan Alda) encourages it to do research and so she looks for clues to endorse her murder theory. However, the evidence is not sufficient and Larry is increasingly worried about his wife; he thinks they must abandon its macabre obsession. Carol, however, cocky and confident of its right. Since nobody is listening to him, Larry decides the game than just playing along. The story is not necessarily original or surprising, but looks very nice way. That is mainly due to the chemistry between Keaton and Allen, who complement each other perfectly on the big screen. If you thought he was neurotic, she is still a carbon copy worse. In addition, would you still like to know what the real reason is Lilian's death, and so you keep watching with pleasure. And that is certainly no punishment, for "Manhattan Murder Mystery" is packed with jokes, winks and witticisms and even slapstick is not shunned. Movie fans undoubtedly recognize the references made to include "Double Indemnity" (1944), 'The Lady from Shanghai (1947) and Rear Window (1954) - classics is the mystery genre. 'Manhattan Murder Mystery' is not a film that you will always remember, but is indeed a small party to watch. And the actors - Zach Braff is seen in his first film role - had fun creating it, is beyond dispute..
